OUR STORY

Built over time, in New York.

Our apparel history dates to 1993, when Amr Hamdy first entered the trade. Over the years, the business expanded across sourcing, retail, wholesale, manufacturing and international import/export, establishing the operating foundation carried forward by the second generation today.

2ndGeneration

The family business continues today.

1993–1995

A side business becomes the beginning.

In 1993, Hamdy began entering the apparel business on the side, supplying small quantities of merchandise to local stores. Those early years established the relationships and product familiarity that set the business in motion.

1995–1999

A sourcing operation takes shape.

The side activity developed into a New York sourcing office based in the Empire State Building, where Hamdy began building a more organized sourcing and program-support operation.

1999

A storefront opens in Sunset Park.

In 1999, Hamdy opened a storefront on 5th Avenue in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, between 59th and 60th Streets. The store added direct retail perspective while the broader sourcing and wholesale side of the business continued to grow.

A NEW YORK TRANSITION

From Midtown sourcing to Brooklyn retail.

The sourcing office operated from the Empire State Building before the business added a storefront presence in Sunset Park.

2002

Retail closes. International operations take priority.

By 2002, the storefront chapter gave way to a fuller focus on international importing, exporting, wholesale and apparel production.

2004

The import/export business scales.

By 2004, the business had grown into a substantial international apparel operation, handling approximately 260 to 340 shipments and container movements annually during its scaled operating years.

2007–2014

The peak years.

From 2007 through 2014, the operation remained at its historical high point, supporting a broad range of U.S. apparel programs through an international sourcing, factory and import/export platform.

Today

The second generation carries it forward.

Today, the second generation runs The Mayflower, carrying forward the family’s experience in manufacturing, wholesale, sourcing and importing with a modern approach to communication, product development and execution.

THEN & NOW

A long operating history, carried forward.

The Mayflower today reflects decades of family experience across sourcing, retail, wholesale, production and international apparel trade. Historical retailer references describe program work developed through broader channel relationships and do not imply current relationships.

Historical shipment and scale figures reflect family operating history and surviving records.
